The Special Operations Forces (SOF) Battalion and Company Headquarters facility is a 46,450 square foot building located in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. The LEED Silver certified facility houses six different Companies and comprises of office spaces, conference rooms, and storage rooms. Each Company is equipped with separate entrances and loading docks, leading to a two-story Headquarters at the building’s center. The contractor, Caddell Construction, requested Blue Quality Services to perform Whole Building Air Leakage Testing and Commissioning services throughout the design, construction, and occupancy phases.
As the Commissioning Authority on this project, our role was to direct the commissioning efforts, produce the commissioning plan, and perform site visits at 70, 80, and 100 percent completion. These site visits concentrated on documenting the performance of the energy consuming systems and ensured installation met project specifications. Commissioned systems included primary heating and cooling, chilled and hot water systems, energy recovery unit, supplemental heating and cooling, primary exhaust air, and domestic hot water systems. Our team helped identity a number of issues that were outlined in the Final Commissioning Report.
In addition to Commissioning services, our field services team also performed Whole Building Air Leakage Testing and infrared thermography scanning in accordance with US Army Corps of Engineers testing protocol. This non-destructive testing method is designed to evaluate the building’s overall air-tightness to better understand the major areas of potential air leakage through the building’s enclosure. The building passed the air leakage test.
